This is the second half of an introductory graduate course in Statistical and Thermal Physics with the emphasis on the basic concepts in equilibrium statistical physics and its connection to classical thermodynamics. The formal prerequisite to attend the course is the first part of the course, or any equivalent course.
The text book is Fundamentals of Statistical and Thermal Physics, Author: Federick Reif, ISBN: 9781577666127. The second part of the course gives 7.5 ECTS credits and take place during the spring of 2018. There will be approximately 10 lectures of two hours each, normally one per week. The examination will be in the form of mandatory homework problems and an oral exam at the end of the course. This second part will cover chapters 9  15 in the text book approximately and thus cover: Quantum statistics of ideal gases, Systems of interacting particles, Magnetism and low temperatures, Elementary kinetic theory of transport processes, Transport theory using the relaxation time approximation, Nearexact formulation of transport theory, Irreversible processes and fluctuations.

To pass on the second part of the course all mandatory homework problems should be solved correctly before the mandatory oral exam. The deadline for the oral exam will be late in the spring 2018. An exact date will be given later.
